CT’s Jewish Family Services

Services offered by the JFS agencies include emergency funds, job search workshops, and food banks

Jewish Family Services (JFS) offices around the region have really stepped up to the plate to help those hard hit by the bad economy over the past year. Besides their counseling, services offered by the agencies include emergency funds, job search workshops, and food banks.

JFS of Greater Hartford’s JETS Career Center offers on-line job listings and its “Schmoozer’s Job Network” provides support for those looking for jobs. The office also offers assistance with resumé writing, interview preparation and job coaching, as well as a kosher food pantry for those in need.

JFS in New Haven offers the community an unemployment support group and a resume workshop, as well as a kosher pantry.

JFS of Bridgeport provides access to community celebrations, meals, toys for the holidays; distributes Kosher turkeys for Thanksgiving, baskets of Passover food, Purim baskets, Chanukah toys; and cash to individuals and families in need.

Brownstein JFS in Southbury raises money for grocery gift cards for people in need via “Centerpieces for Tzedakah” baskets and provides Passover and holiday food baskets for the needy. It also Held a Community Resources Expo to assist individuals in filling out applications and learning about programs to help during the tough economic times.

JFS of Stamford’s services include employment and training services and a kosher food pantry.

Jewish Family Service of Western Mass. has offered a series of employment, job search and financial consulting workshops, as well as an emergency financial aid fund, in conjunction with the Jewish Federation, for those in need in the local Jewish community.
