Leah Roselyn (Savitsky) Rubin

Leah Roselyn (Savitsky) Rubin, 99, of Bloomfield, died March 11 at home. She was the widow of Jack M. Rubin. Born in Ansonia, she was the daughter of Rebecca (Shapiro) Savitsky and Wolf Savitsky.  Her brothers Martin Savitsky and Lewis Savitsky predeceased her, as did her daughter, Carolyn (Rubin) Musicant of Concord, Mass., who died in 2004. Mrs. Rubin was a 1932 graduate of Connecticut College (then Connecticut College for Women) and taught public school in Shelton prior to her marriage.  She was a public school substitute teacher in Bloomfield, as well as an active member of Hadassah.  She was a founding member of the Aleph Book Club.  She volunteered at Hartford Hospital’s psychiatric unit for a number of years.  She was also a member of Beth El Temple, West Hartford for more than 38 years. She leaves her daughter Sara L. Rubin and son-in-law David L. ‘Harold’ Montanari of Newton, Mass.   Mrs. Rubin leaves behind her son-in-law, Bruce Musicant, and her grandchildren, Judith (Musicant) Rosenbaum and her husband Lee Rosenbaum and their children Laurel and Amanda Rosenbaum of Concord, Mass.; David Musicant and his partner Anna Yu of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; Susan Musicant of New York; and Joshua Musicant of New York.  She also leaves her brother, Allan Savitsky of Fairfield, and her sister-in-law, Norma R. Greene of Hamden.  The family would like to express its appreciation to her devoted caregivers, led by Iris Gray.
