UConn athlete joins USA delegation to int'l Maccabi Games

Junior Cara Silverman, a Varsity Women’s Field Hockey athlete at the University of Connecticut (UConn) will join the USA Open Women’s Field Hockey Team at the 13th European Maccabi Games in Vienna, Austria in July.  Silverman is an alumnus of the USA Open Women’s Field Hockey Team that took the silver medal at the 18th World Maccabiah Games in July, 2009.

A forward for UConn, Silverman has helped her team with 31 goals and seven assists, and was selected to Second Team Big East and the Big East All Tournament Team.  At the 18th World Maccabiah Games in 2009 she contributed five goals and six assists in the tournament competing against the best Jewish field hockey athletes in the world.  In high school, Silverman played for third ranked West Essex High School in New Jersey where she played midfield and contributed 30 goals and 33 assists during her tenure there.  She also played four years of Club Field Hockey with The Edge as a midfielder.
“I hope to help my team bring home the Gold this summer,” said Silverman said, whose greatest athletic achievement to date has been making the Elite 8 with her college team in the NCAA Tournament.  “Representing the USA in Israel was an incredible experience and I do expect my European Maccabi experience to be very special too as I will have the opportunity again to play my sport against other talented Jewish athletes from around the world.”
Maccabi USA is the official sponsor of the United States Team to the World Maccabiah Games, the Pan American Maccabi Games and the Maccabi competitions in Europe and Australia, as well as a co-founder of the JCC Maccabi Games for teens in North America.
