Beth El of Fairfield to Honor Jordan Lustig

Jordan Lustig

Congregation Beth El of Fairfield will host a breakfast to honor Jordan Lustig as Most Honored Minyan Person of the Year on Sunday morning, Dec. 11.
Lustig was instrumental in starting the minyan in September of 1973 when he approached Rabbi Label Waldman and proposed that Beth El begin a morning minyan with “coffee and …”.  Volunteers were asked to commit to attend minyan one day a week, either Monday or Thursday.  Each week, Lustig, who has attended the minyan on Mondays since 1973, mailed a group of 20 men their Monday or Thursday assignments.  In later years, the minyan expanded to a daily event.  Today, Beth El’s morning minyan is a full and vibrant group, with many attending to fulfill a religious obligation – but most attending simply because they enjoy it.
In addition to his involvement in the morning minyan, Lustig served on Beth El’s board of directors for 18 years, and was vice president of the Ritual and Finance Committees and chair of the first Constitution Revision Committee.  In 1991, he was selected as the synagogue’s “Man of the Year.”
He is also a past president of Jewish Family Service, and served as a member of the executive committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Bridgeport and its Commission on the Elderly.  A past vice president of the Bridgeport Jaycees, he is a recipient of that organization’s Life Membership Award.
Lustig will be honored at Beth El’s 9 a.m. morning minyan service, followed by breakfast at 9:30 a.m. A donation of $10 per person is requested. Reservations are required. Congregation Beth El is located at 1200 Fairfield Woods Road in Fairfield.  For more information or reservations call (203) 374-5544.
