West Hartford women stand with “Women of the Wall’

“We, the women of the Greater Hartford Jewish community, stand here in solidarity today with our sisters in Israel, the Women of the Wall,” said Rabbi Ilana Garber of Beth El Temple in West Hartford, as she opened “Shema Solidarity,” held in the shul’s chapel on Sunday, Oct. 21. Attended by more than 70 women and young girls, “Shema Solidarity” was meant to show support for Anat Hoffman, chairman of Women of the Wall, who was arrested at the Kotel in Jerusalem on charges of disturbing the peace. After Garber spoke, the Beth El group then sang “Shema Yisrael” – the prayer that Hoffman and some 200 Hadassah women were reciting when she was arrested. The video of Shema Solidarity can be viewed at (www.bethelwesthartford.org) and will be sent to the Women of the Wall.
