Dick Becker honored in Fairfield

Dick Becker

More than 150 congregants and friends were on hand to honor Richard Becker as Minyan Person of the Year by Congregation Beth El of Fairfield at a breakfast held on Sunday, Oct. 21.
An active member of Beth El for nearly 50 years, Becker began attending the minyan more than 16 years ago when a friend who had recently lost his father asked him to join the Sunday morning minyan group to ensure there were enough people present when the friend said Kaddish. That and the subsequent passing of his own father, was the beginning of a long-time dedication to the morning minyan service.
“It is an important part of my daily life. Because I believe there should be a place where people can come to share happy events as well as receive comfort in times of sadness, the minyan fills a special need,” notes Becker.
Besides the minyan, Becker’s involvement at Beth El includes serving on the Board of Directors and as co-chair of the Cemetery Committee. In 1996, he was honored as Beth El’s Man of the Year.
In addition, Becker is a long-time Board Member of the Jewish Home for the Elderly, where he has been chairman of the Pastoral Services Committee for more than 20 years.
