Walter B. Schatz, 90, died Nov. 5, in West Hartford. Born in Hartford, he was the son of Louis M. and Elizabeth B. Schatz. He served in the U.S. Army as a cryptographic technician in the Pacific Theater from 1943-1945. He was a decorated sergeant in the Signal Corps Wing of the 7th Air Force, Military Intelligence Service. He is survived by his children, Louis and Susan Schatz of West Hartford, Beverly and David Therkelsen of Andover, Mass., Carol Schatz and Richard Papper of New York City, and Patricia and Gilles Pipernos-Schatz of West Hartford; his grandchildren, David and Amy Schatz, Carly, Matthew and Liza Therkelsen, Gaby and Willy Papper and Benjamin and Sara Pipernos.
