Jewish Home director receives award

Laura SnowFAIRFIELD – Laura Snow, MPH, director of the Institute on Aging and the Center for Elder Abuse Prevention at the Jewish Home in Fairfield, is the recipient of the 2013 Association of Jewish Aging Services (AJAS) Young Executive Award. The award recognizes
a healthcare professional under the age of 45, who has demonstrated significant potential in aging services through his or her achievements or innovative results. Snow received her award at the Association’s 2013 Annual Conference in Beverly Hills on March 5.
Since receiving her Master’s from the Yale School of Public Health in 2008, Snow has led The Jewish Home’s Center on Elder Abuse Prevention, Connecticut’s first shelter and abuse prevention program for the elderly, and the Institute on Aging, a consultative service for seniors in the community. In 2011, Snow received the first ever Excellence in Aging Award from the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging.
In addition to her direct work with seniors, Snow frequently presents at local community events to increase awareness about elder abuse and provide resources and referrals to those in need. She is also often called upon to offer her professional expertise in Hartford. At the national level, Snow works with Senator Richard Blumenthal’s office to provide advice on draft legislation, participate in public policy efforts and propose joint speaking and conference opportunities with the senator and his staff.
“The Jewish Home is thrilled that AJAS is recognizing Laura for her tremendous work on behalf of seniors. We look forward to her continued leadership in both public policy and in operational excellence as she works with seniors and their families,” said the Home’s president and CEO Andrew H. Banoff.
AJAS is an association of non-profit community-based organizations, rooted in Jewish values, which promotes and supports the delivery of services to an aging population.
