Participants, volunteers sought for Tour de Shuls CT

WEST HARTFORD – Participants and volunteers are invited to take part in the Fourth Annual Tour de Shuls bike ride that helps raise funds to send Jewish children with developmental disabilities to summer camp. The ride will be held on Sunday, June 23.

Participants may ride, run or walk — or even participate virtually — in the day’s events, featuring a choice of routes that range from three to 50 mile loops though West Hartford, Simsbury and Granby.  Synagogues along the way will serve as hospitality and rest stops.

Supported by 20 Connecticut synagogues, the goal of the Tour is to raise $10,000 for two programs that give Jewish children with disabilities the full camping experience.

“The Tour de Shuls is a community event that supports programs at the Camp Ramah Tikvah program and Camp Eisner and Crane Lake Chazak program for children who might not be able to participate in traditional camping programs,” says Ron Apter, co-chairman of the event. “The Tikvah and Chazak programs serve Jewish children with developmental disabilities and other physical challenges. Those who participate in the Tour help Tikvah and Chazak campers to experience the joys and camaraderie of Jewish summer camp by providing scholarships to defray the costs of attending camp.”

Registration is $54 for adults; $36 for children under the age of 18; family maximum is $126. Fees are waived for individuals who raise $100 or more. Participants can register in advance online or in person on the morning of the ride.

In addition to participants, Tour de Shuls needs volunteers to help with a variety of tasks.
