With this issue, Alex Putterman of West Hartford joins the Ledger staff as a summer intern.

Alex is 19 years old and a rising sophomore at Northwestern University, majoring in journalism in the Medill School of Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications. Alex is an aspiring sportswriter who especially enjoys writing and reading about baseball. He roots for the Yankees but is happy watching just about any game. In fact, he has seen games at 30 Major League Baseball parks…and counting.

Alex’s interests also include politics and sociology, including an increasing fascination with the roots of urban poverty.

As a freshman, Alex was a sports reporter for the Daily Northwestern, covering seven Northwestern sports including basketball and baseball. At Hall High School in West Hartford he spent two years as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. He also contributed to the nationally-read baseball blog Baseball Past and Present.

Alex is an active member of West Hartford’s Jewish community. He and his family are members of Beth El Temple, and during his senior year of high school he was Student Board president of Friendship Circle Connecticut, a Jewish volunteer organization run by the Chabad House of Greater Hartford.
