GREENWICH — Evan Levy of New Rochelle, N.Y. has been elected the next president of Carmel Academy in Greenwich. Levy, who will take office on July 1, 2014, is a Carmel parent, as well as a Board member.

Over the course of the next academic year, Levy will work closely with Head of School Nora Anderson, current Board President David Messer and other school leadership, to prepare for the transfer of Board leadership.

“Carmel Academy has become a shining example in Jewish day school education, and it has been an honor to work with my fellow trustees and the professional leadership these past seven years,” Messer said. “I congratulate Evan on his election, and look forward to partnering with him over the next year. I have full confidence that he will successfully lead our school on its important educational mission.”

“Over the last seven years David Messer established an extraordinary foundation for Carmel Academy to grow, prosper and achieve academic excellence and I look forward to continuing the success of our school,” Levy said. “With record enrollment for our 2013-2014 school year, Carmel Academy continues to focus on the individual needs of each child to maximize their academic and social success. I am honored to have been selected to lead Carmel Academy.”

Of Carmel’s outgoing president, Anderson said, “It has been a privilege to work with David Messer over these past seven years. His vision, along with a true commitment to a partnership between the Board of Trustees and professional staff, has helped build a Jewish day school like no other – a school where academic excellence is paramount, religious diversity is honored and celebrated, diversified education is realized, and a strong sense of community is felt every day. I am excited to work alongside Evan, whose passion for Carmel is evident and whose aspirations for our school will continue to move us forward into our next chapter.”

A partner in the New York law office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, Levy has been a member of the Carmel Academy Board for the past three years and has served as co-chair of its Development Committee and a member of its Trustees Committee. He is also actively involved in the Westchester Jewish community, where he is a member of Beth El Synagogue in New Rochelle. He helped found the UJA-Federation of New York, New Rochelle Community Campaign and has served as the Chair of the Westchester General Campaign of UJA-Federation of New York.

Levy and his wife Tracey, also a lawyer, are the parents of four Carmel Academy students.
