SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3

Orange – Annual Kristallnacht Commemoration honoring Ruth Gruber, an American journalist, photographer, humanitarian and former U.S. government official who helped save hundreds of Holocaust victims; screening of the film “Ahead of Time: The Extraordinary Journey of Ruth Gruber” at 9 a.m., followed by program; co-sponsored by Congregation Or Shalom and CT Valley West Rock Chapter of Hadassah; at Or Shalom, 205 Old Grassy Hill Rd. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6

Fairfield – Kristallnacht Commemoration; screening of the documentary “Defiant Requiem: Voices of Resistance,” presented by distinguished conductor, educator and artistic innovator Murry Sidlin; 2 p.m.; sponsored by the Office of Mission and Catholic Identity of Sacred Heart University at University Commons, 5151 Park Ave.

 

FRIDAY, NOV. 8 – SAT., NOV. 9

Bridgeport – “Kristallnacht – 75 Years Later”; Andree Lotey will discuss the story of Aristides de Sousa Mendez, Portugal’s consul in Bordeaux who provided 30,000 people with Portuguese visas, enabling them to escape Nazi persecution on Friday evening, services at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 7:15 p.m.; and a screening of the award-winning film “Disobedience: The Sousa Mendez Story,” on Saturday, 4 p.m.; Congregation B’nai Israel, 2710 Park Ave.,  (203) 336-1858.
