On Jan. 13, Jie Zhang, a UConn social work intern, visited Hebrew Health Care to lead residents in a celebration of the Chinese new year – the Year of the Horse. Zhang taught residents how to say “happy new year” in Chinese, told a story about the Chinese zodiac and shared the character traits of each Zodiac animal. The residents also enjoyed an afternoon of Chinese folk music and a traditional Chinese feast, topped off with a fortune cookie. At the end of the event, each resident received the gift of a red pouch, representing happiness, wealth and longevity.
