Special to the Ledger

Connecticut’s 36th Annual Holocaust Remembrance ceremony will be held Friday, April 25th, at the State Capitol in Hartford. The theme of this year’s event is “Confronting the Holocaust: American Responses”.

Al Linder

Keynote speaker Al Linder will share his story of surviving the Holocaust. Born in Chernowitz, Romania in 1936, Linder spent his childhood, from 1941 to 1944, in concentration camps in the disputed border regions of Transnistria. Linder, who lives in Stamford with his wife Sheila, traveled back to Romania in the 1990s at the urging of his daughter, Joan. Describing the trip as “a liberating experience,” it is only since then that he has been able to talk about his life during the war.

The 36th Annual Statewide Holocaust Commemoration is sponsored by the Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut (JFACT) and Voices of Hope; and co-sponsored by United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien. It is also presented in coordination with the Federations of Eastern Connecticut, Greater Danbury, Greater Hartford, Greater New Haven, Western Connecticut, Greenwich, and Westport-Weston-Wilton-Norwalk, as well as the Anti-Defamation League, Christian Conference of Connecticut, State of Connecticut, State of Israel Bonds and the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.

The ceremony is open to the public and will begin at 11 a.m. in the Senate Chambers of the State Capitol in Hartford. For more information contact Kathy Fishman at (860) 727-5771 or email jfact@mcmgmt.com.
