First Tri-State area day school, yeshiva and camp fair

Special to the Ledger

Nineteen Jewish day schools and yeshivot from Connecticut, New York and New Jersey, as well as seven Jewish camps and Israel programs, will be featured at the first-ever Tri-State Area Community Jewish Day School, Yeshiva and Camp Fair, to be held Sunday, April 6 at Beth El Synagogue Center, 1324 North Ave., New Rochelle, N.Y., 12 noon to 2 p.m. The fair will highlight the full-time educational opportunities available in the local Jewish community. Admission is free and open to the public.

“This is a way for schools to collaborate in highlighting the importance of day school and yeshiva education and celebrating the diversity in educational choices. A meaningful, substantive, and engaging educational experience is critical to the vibrancy of the American Jewish community,” said Evan Levy, an organizer of the fair from Beth El Synagogue Center and president-elect of Carmel Academy in Greenwich, a participating day school.

Noting that Jewish population studies, including the recent study by the Pew Foundation, identify a full-time Jewish day school or yeshiva education and a Jewish summer camp experience as key components to Jewish continuity, Levy said the fair will highlight the diversity of available programs in the local area that makes educational choice accessible to the broader Jewish community. Participating schools and camps represent the spectrum of the Jewish community, including Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and pluralistic institutions providing traditional and special education programs.

Participating schools from Connecticut include: Bi-Cultural Day School (Stamford), Carmel Academy (Greenwich), Jewish High School of Connecticut (Woodbridge).

Other participating schools include: Abraham Joshua Heschel School (New York, N.Y.), The Frisch School (Paramus, N.J.), Kinneret Day School (Riverdale, N.Y.), Manhattan Day School (New York, N.Y.), Rabbi Arthur Schneier Park East Day School (New York, N.Y.), Ramaz School (New York, N.Y.), Rockland Jewish Academy (West Nyack, N.Y.), Rodeph Sholom School (New York, N.Y.), SAR Academy and High School (Riverdale, N.Y.), The Shefa School (New York, NY), Solomon Schechter School of Westchester (Hartsdale, N.Y.), Solomon Schechter of Manhattan (New York, N.Y.), Stein Yeshiva of Lincoln Park (Yonkers, N.Y.), Westchester Day School (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Westchester Hebrew High School (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Westchester Torah Academy (New Rochelle, N.Y.).
