SHEKETOFF

Selma Sheketoff, age 90, the beloved wife of Harry Sheketoff who predeceased her in 2011, passed away on Sept. 20, 2014 in her Bridgeport home surrounded by family. Selma was born in Meriden. She lost her father at the young age of seven, and grew up with her devoted mother, three sisters and one brother. Selma was a student at Weaver High School in Hartford then continued her education at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing. She then furthered her nursing career path doing Public Health in both Hartford and then Syracuse, New York. She ultimately finished her nursing career teaching at the University of Bridgeport School of Nursing. During her career, Selma also worked in the Department of Public Health in Bridgeport, was a summer camp nurse at Camp JCC and was known as an available help to all friends and neighbors seeking her nursing expertise. Selma is survived by her three children, Emily, Michael and Alan, her two daughters-in-law, Claudia and Meg; grandchildren, Nicholas, Melissa, Matthew, Amy Jo, Annie Lyn, Liza, Katie and her husband Rush; two great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Emerson. Selma spent a lot of her time enjoying her close friends. She formed a group of friends playing volleyball at the JCC, expanding her knowledge in New York City classes at the Met, attending lectures at Fairfield University and Culture, and of course spending countless hours socializing while playing bridge.The Sheketoff family wants to personally extend immense gratitude to Mary Fischer for her love and care to Selma in her last few months. She became a dear friend to both Selma and the immediate family, and she sat by Selma’s side in her last two weeks at home. And many thanks to devoted daughter-in-law, Claudia, who was by her side through it all. Services took place on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, with interment following at Rodeph Sholom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Selma’s memory to either Hadassah or Autism Speaks.
