HARTFORD – Louis B. Schatz, a partner with Shipman & Goodwin LLP and Co-Chair of the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits Practice Group, has been selected by the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly to serve on the State Tax Panel. Created for the purpose of reviewing the state’s overall state and local tax structure, the panel is comprised of experts in tax law, tax accounting, tax policy, economics and state, local and business finance. The 15-member panel is scheduled to release its recommendations for ways to modernize tax policy, structure and administration on Jan. 1, 2015.

Schatz is currently a member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s House of Delegates, and is past chair of the association’s tax section. In 2013, Best Lawyers named him “Lawyer of the Year” in tax law for the Hartford region.

Schatz is a frequent lecturer on federal and State of Connecticut tax, partnership and limited liability company issues, and provides annual updates on Connecticut tax developments to out-of-state accountants. He has presented to a variety of professional and business associations, including the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut Society of CPAs, the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, the National Conference of CPA Practitioners, the New York State Society of CPAs, the Long Island Tax Practitioner Symposium, the National Business Institute, the University of Connecticut Income Tax School, and the Foundation for Accounting Education in New York City. Widely published, he is co-author of Connecticut Limited Liability Act: Forms and Practice Manual, the leading treatise in Connecticut on limited liability companies.
