Making Thanksgiving happy for families in need

For the second year running, West Hartford’s Crown Supermarket and Jewish Family Service (JFS) kosher food pantry have teamed up to sponsor their Thanksgiving Donation Bag program. Crown fills reusable shopping bags with all the side dishes needed to make a Thanksgiving meal complete (everything but the turkey) and the bags, valued at $25, are then purchased by Crown customers for $18. Crown handles delivery of the bags to the food pantry, which are then given out to families in need. Last year, Crown reports selling more than 200 bags – which was more than the pantry needed. The extra cash meant the pantry was able to purchase turkeys – making for a very happy Thanksgiving. To make a donation, stop by the Crown Market at Bishop’s Corner in West Hartford.
