Joseph David Pear, 95, of Moodus, died Jan. 2. He was the widower of Leah Katz Pear. He was the son of the late Morris and Sarah (Polstein) Pear. He served with the U.S. Army Service Company, 772 Tank Battalion during World War II. He was a member of Rodfe Zedek Synagogue in Moodus, and was instrumental in its merging with Beth Shalom Synagogue. He is survived by his children Adrienne (Pear) Hopfer and her husband Sidney, and Steven Pear and his wife Karen; his grandchildren, Jamie (Hopfer) Scarpati and her husband Paul, Jeremy Hopfer and his fiancé Katherine Matz, Jennifer Pear and Michael Pear; his great-grandchildren, Samuel and Anna Scarpati; and many beloved nieces and nephews. His was also predeceased by his brothers, Jack, Sam, Mike and Albert.
