Police lend a helping hand

With Eric Zachs, board chair of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford (far left), and Lisa Vaeth, director of the Federation’s Association of Jewish Cemeteries looking on, Federation President/CEO Howard Sovronsky accepts a generous gift from the Hartford Police Italian Officers Association, to help in the repair of the approximately 22 gravestones vandalized last month in two Zion Hill Jewish cemeteries in Hartford. Police are currently investigating, and patrolling the area. The Jewish cemeteries were once affiliated with organizations or synagogues that are now defunct. For more than three decades, Federation has seen to their care and management. providing these 28 sacred burial grounds with the proper maintenance and respect they deserve.
