And they’re off…

It was all about fun and physics for students at the Jewish High School of Connecticut (JHSC) in Stamford, as they geared up for the school’s annual Carton Cart Race. The teens were created moving carts made out of half a milk carton and any other household items, which they then powered by elastic kinetic energy, such as rubber bands, slingshots, rat traps and balloons. This year’s winning cart traveled 35 feet and was designed by Samuel Terr.  Natalie Shclover’s cart traveling 33.5 feet, came in second, and Daniel Hanna’s cart placed third, with a distance of 26.5 feet. “It was an exciting experience and I came to realize that engineering is something that I would like to pursue in the future,” said Terr after the race.

CAP: Participating in the Carton Cart Race were JHSC students (l to r) Emily Sklar, Anya Castle and Julia Arnowitz.
