JFACT Fund will host Hartford premiere of “Harvesting Stones”

The Jewish Federation of Connecticut will host the JFACT Fund Annual Night at the Theater on Monday, Sept. 19, 6 – 9 p.m., featuring the Hartford premiere of “Harvesting Stones,” a documentary by Jerry Fischer, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Eastern Connecticut. Narrated by renowned Jewish storyteller Peninnah Manchester Schram, with music by Bruce Zimmerman, the film explores the history of the Baron de Hirsch-financed Jewish farms scattered throughout eastern Connecticut: the transition from dairy farms to raising chickens, the resorts that some of the farms evolved into, and the challenges of rocky soils and local antisemitism. The film highlights the farms created by refugees from the pogroms of Russia in the late 19th century, as well as the re-population of the farming region by survivors of the Holocaust.

JFACT Fund donors are invited to attend a pre-film reception with speaker Sam Gejdenson, former United States Representative for the 2nd Congressional District of Connecticut.

The reception and film will be held at the Mandell JCC, 335 Bloomfield Ave. For more information: (860) 727-5701, jfact@mcmgmt.com, jfact.org.
