Sherman G. Kanter, 80, of West Hartford, formerly of Newington, died August 22. He was the husband of Janice (Moscov) Kanter. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Carl and Emma (Goldberg) Kanter of Farmington. He was an active member of Congregation B’nai Shalom in Newington. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rochelle Murphy and her husband Richard of Avon, Gary Kanter and his wife Kelly Lynch of Granby, and Norine Kanter and her husband Mark Piekarsky of West Hartford; his grandchildren, Cayla, Jared, and Sarah Murphy; Bethany, Colin, and Max Kanter, and Michael, Adam, and Lana Piekarsky; his sister Elaine Hanenbaum of West Hartford; his sister-in-law Laura Penn of New Hampshire; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Rosalie Kanter.
