Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz named CT House of Representatives chaplain

Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz, spiritual leader of Beth Ahm Synagogue in Windsor, has been appointed a chaplain of the House of Representatives in Hartford, it was announced recently by State Representative David Baram (D-Bloomfield/Windsor). As chaplain, Lefkowitz will work with the other House chaplains to provide an invocation to legislators at the commencement of each House session.

“I was honored to recommend Rabbi Lefkowitz for this important position. I know that he will provide inspirational prayers that will be uplifting and meaningful,” Baram said, in announcing the rabbi’s appointment. “I have known the rabbi for a very long time, when he was cantor and educator at Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield, and most recently as rabbi of Beth Ahm in Windsor. I look forward to his religious leadership at the State Capitol.”

In addition to serving as rabbi at Beth Ahm since 1999, Lefkowitz also serves as a chaplain at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain and was interim chaplain at Hebrew Health Care in West Hartford in 2014. In addition to his work at Beth Hillel Synagogue, he previously served as cantor and educator at Beth Jacob Synagogue in Norwich.

“It is a great honor being named a chaplain for the House of Representatives,” Rabbi Lefkowitz said. “I never had the opportunity to be in the military and this is a way to give back to my country. I am looking forward to serving.”

Rabbi Lefkowitz also serves and his wife, Jody, live in Windsor.
