SHEPPARD

Herman Sheppard, 90, of West Hartford, formerly a longtime resident of Plainfield, died March 18. He was the husband of Gertrude (Skolnik) Sheppard. Born in Sosnowiec, Poland, he was the son of Rueben and Rachel Przepiorka. He was a Holocaust survivor, who had labored in several concentration camps until being liberated from the Buchenwald camp by American soldiers. He was a founding member of Temple Beth Israel in Danielson. He is survived by three children, Fay Sheppard and her husband, Michael Romeo, of West Haven, Lee Sheppard, and Rachel Rubin and her husband, Richard, of Bloomfield, and Richard Sheppard of Avon; two grandchildren, Michael Rubin and his wife, Erica, and Andrew Rubin, both of New York City. He was predeceased by a son, Melvin Sheppard; and a sister, Lola Herz.
