Greenwich day school selected for Ayeka “Soulful Education” program

Carmel Academy in Greenwich is one of eight schools chosen to participate in the next cohort of Ayeka: The Center for Soulful Education.

Funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation, the cohort will begin in August 2018. Ayeka was one of 10 recipients of the Jim Joseph Foundation’s Jewish Educator Professional Development Initiative.

In addition to Carmel, the schools chosen are Adelson Educational Campus, Beren Hebrew Academy, Katz Yeshiva High School, Luria Academy of Brooklyn, Maimonides School, Pressman Academy, and Solomon Schechter of Long Island.

Bi-Cultural Day School in Stamford was chosen to participate in a previous Ayeka cohort.

Over the course of this multi-year program, selected Judaic studies teachers will become proficient in implementing Ayeka’s Soulful Education pedagogy in their classrooms, and then will coach other Judaic studies staff at their schools. The program will include retreats, on-site coaching sessions, individual mentoring and virtual conversations for selected staff as well as administration of the selected day schools.

This major grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation follows other grants recently received by Ayeka, including from the AVI CHAI, Kohelet and Mayberg Foundations, to expand its Soulful Educational Programming in Jewish Day Schools in Jewish communities throughout North America.
