AVIT

Max Javit of in Boca Raton, FL, died Jan. 23. Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was son of Jacob and Rose Josowitz. He received a BA in Economics from Michigan State University and a Master degree in Psychiatric Social Work from the University of Michigan. He served in the U.S. armed forces as an officer and chief of psychiatric social work in a German mental health clinic after World War II. After a brief stint as a social worker in Hartford, he founded Max Javit Real Estate Development located in Farmington, where he focused on developing commercial properties. He served on the Board of Governors of Ben Gurion University, was honored by the Jewish Association for Community Living, and received the ‘Torch of Liberty Award’ from ADL for his long history of community service. He is survived by his wife Rachel; his children Sharona, Daniel, and Deborah; and his grandchildren Samuel and Isabel. Funeral services were held Jan. 27 with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anti-Defamation League or Ben Gurion University in Israel. WEINSTEIN MORTUARY
