COHEN

Jerry A. Cohen, 98, of West Hartford, died Jan. 30. He was the husband of Libbian (Cohn) Cohen. Raised in Hartford, he was the son of Adolph and Rose (Gutensky) Cohen. He served in the World War II Army Dental Corps as a captain. He was a graduate of the New Park Avenue School, Hartford Public High School, Yale University (Class of 1941), and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School (1944). He had a dental practice on Hartford’s Albany Avenue and later in Bishop’s Corner, West Hartford. He was a past officer of Congregation Beth Israel, the West Hartford Regents, Yale Club of Hartford, and Parkville Men’s Club. He served as treasurer of Yale Class of 1941. For years, he volunteered for Loaves & Fishes, Hebrew Home, and Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford Children’s Reading Partners at West Middle School. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sharon Hessney and her husband David, and Adam Cohen and his wife Cindy; his brother Milton Cohen; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Ethan Hessney, and Rachel Cohen and Josh Cohen; and his great-grandchildren Leo Cohen and Esther Lai Hessney. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mildred Levenson and Beatrice Rabitz.
