Cantor’s Concert honors Stamford couple

STAMFORD – “A Tribute to the Music of Barbra Streisand” featuring performances by Cantors Magda Fishman and Shira Lissek is the musical theme of the 2019 Cantor’s Concert hosted by Temple Beth El in Stamford. The concert, which will also honor longtime Beth El members Honni and Sylvan Pomerantz, will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 7 p.m. at the Stamford synagogue.

A mezzo-soprano, Beth El’s Cantor Fishman has performed extensively in Israel and Europe, the U.S. and Canada with the groups Soul to Soul and Divas on the Bimah. Cantor Lissek, who currently serves as cantor of Temple Israel in Charlotte, North Carolina, was previously associate cantor of Park Avenue Synagogue, the largest Conservative community in New York City. She has performed in concerts around the world.

Fishman and Lisssek have performed their tribute to Barbra Streisand at Park Avenue Synagogue and Metropolitan Room in New York City to rave reviews.

Honoring Honni and Sylvan Pomeranz

Sylvan and Honni Pomeranz have been Beth El members for 32 years. During that time, Sylvan has served on a host of Beth El committes, as well as president of the shul’s Board of Trustees (2013–2015) and co-chair of Temple Rock and The Mann Family Solar Panel initiative. Honni has served as an architectural consultant to the synagogue and its Facilities Committee and volunteers for Temple Rock. Together, the couple were project managers for the renovations of the synagogue’s social hall, lobby and sanctuary.

The Pomeranzes are partners of Construction Solutions Group, a Design-Build Construction company. Their three children, Ben, Emily and Sam, attended the synagogue’s religious school. They are proud grandparents of four beautiful grandchildren and one on the way.

Tickets are $36/adults, $10/students in advance; $45/adults, $18/studnets at the door. A dessert reception will follow.
