Science is a winning subject for Hillel students All that hard work paid off for Hillel Academy students who, put in long hours to complete their science fair projects, with the help of their teacher Karen Howell. Several of the students took home first and second place awards at the recent Connecticut State Science Fair. This is the fifteenth year in a row that students attending the Fairfield day school have placed in the fair. Eighth grader Yaakov Breiner of Bridgeport was awarded a second place Dominion's Millstone Power Station Physical Science Award for his project "Quantitative Analysis of Plumbism on Cell and Skin Absorption and the Effect of Chelators on Absorption Process." Eighth graders Rigel Janette of New Haven and Avraham Moskowitz of Bridgeport shared a first place Dominion's Millstone Power Station Physical Science Award in physical Science for their project "Quantitative Analysis of Resiliency, Stability, Firmness, and Antimicrobial Factors on Various Playground Surfaces." Eighth grader Micol Bedarida of New Haven won a first place Audubon Connecticut & Arch Chemicals Environment Award and a third place Pfizer Life Science Award for her project "Quantitative Analysis of Carbon Dioxide Absorption and Adsorption Methods and Impact on the Greenhouse Effect." Jason Wiener, also an eighth grader from New Haven was awarded 4th place in Life Sciences 8th grade by Pfizer Life Science Awards and a $20,000, four year scholarship to Quinnipiac University for his project Quantitative Analysis of Honey as an Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Agent, and Effect on Cell Absorption and Skin Hydration.
