Jewish Children's Service Organization annual meeting

 

WEST HARTFORD -- The Jewish Children's Service Organization (JCSO), held its annual meeting recently at The Emanuel Synagogue. The meeting opened with a d'var Torah by Rabbi Philip Lazowski, followed by guest speaker, Karen Trager of the Commission on Jewish Education, who spoke on "Educating our Community: Growing Strong Jewish Identities."

The new slate of JCSO officers included Don Miller, president; Bonnie Wolf, vice president; Rina Ables, second vice president; Fran Lowenstein, board secretary; Gilda Liebowitz, recording secretary; Sharon Budkofsky, corresponding secretary; Herb Silver, treasurer; Saul Pasternack, assistant treasurer; Faith Helene, Jeff Rudolph and Avra Novarr, financial secretaries; and Loretta Levy and Martin Epstein, auditors.

Annual scholarship awards were presented to the Bess and Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy of Greater Hartford, Solomon Schechter Day School, Hebrew High School of New England, Camp Shalom and Yahad. In addition to these scholarships, the JCSO also funds families in crisis who need money to buy children's clothing, cover daycare and medical bills, supply filled backpacks, and buy Chanukah gifts for needy children. The organization also provides college scholarships. The funds come from membership dues and voluntary contributions.
