N. Richard Greenfield: Publisher As he marks his 15th anniversary as publisher of the Connecticut Jewish Ledger, N. Richard Greenfield looks forward not just to celebrating his own business milestone, but also to continuing to share his ideas and opinions on a variety of topics of interest to Jews in a large community, as he has been doing in the pages of the venerable weekly ever since assuming the role of publisher in 1994. Greenfield-"Ricky" to friends and associates-eagerly took up the editorial mantel as publisher after many successful years in the financial industry in New York City. Today, it is the dissemination of important Jewish news and ideas, as well as the viewpoints that support or attack them, which drive and energize him. His editorial efforts have appeared not just in Greenfield's two primary publications - the Connecticut Jewish Ledger and the Western Massachusetts Jewish Ledger - but also on the Jewish World Review website, in the Jewish Press and elsewhere on the Internet. Nor are his social concerns limited to the written word. An active participant in Jewish affairs and Jewish life, Greenfield has served with such organizations as the Middle East Forum on its New York Board of Governors; the Zionist Organization of America, where he sat on its National Board of Directors; and CAMERA (the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America), where he retains a seat on the New York Advisory Board. Recently, he completed his tenure as chair of the University of Connecticut Hillel Board of Directors. The Ledger's year-end honor list of Connecticut's Jewish Movers and Shakers is but one of countless projects to which Greenfield lends his enthusiasm and expertise. The newspaper has also been used as a sponsor of singles programs and for years was the sole promoter of the Matzah Ball held during the December holiday season. As Greenfield, as well as the paper's management and staff , are proud to point out, Ledger Publications continues to serve the community and to act as the journal of record for Jewish activity throughout Connecticut. For example, Greenfield and his team consider it an important service to the community to publish community-related obituaries - and so, unlike other newspapers and periodicals - it does so free of charge. Ledger Publications also publishes Connecticut and Western Massachusetts editions of the award- winning magazine All Things Jewish , as well as PetsPress, a publication devoted to pets and distributed throughout Connecticut. All of these Ledger publications have lively and informative websites that can be accessed on line through two web addresses: (www.jewishledger.com and www.petspress.net) An estimated 1300 visitors click on the Ledger website daily. Ledger Publications also publishes a weekly community Internet calendar in Fairfield County and mails a weekly email newsletter with the week's news to readers around the country. Traveling regularly between West Hartford and the suburban Boston town of Norwell, Mass., where he lives with his wife Karen, Ricky is connected to the Jewish communities in both regions and elsewhere in the country. With the help of the Internet, he maintains a list of vibrant personal and professional contacts both in the States and throughout Israel. He works closely with the Ledger staff on a weekly basis to keep the 80-year-old newspaper fresh, vibrant, and meaningful for the Ledger's many readers.
