Hebrew Health Care inaugurates green machine Hebrew Health Care recently inaugurated its new 150kW cogeneration plant. A leading provider of health care programs and services for older adults in the greater Hartford area, HHC has taken steps in energy conservation with the installation of a cost saving, "green" Combined Heat and Power (CHP) project. CHP, also known as cogeneration, is the simultaneous production of useable heat and electricity from one fuel source-in this case natural gas. Vincent DeSanti, assistant operations officer for Hebrew Health Care said, "After researching different energy saving technologies, we concluded that CHP (cogeneration) represented the best option for us to reduce our energy costs and carbon footprint." "The system could save our facility $80,000 to $100,000 per year or more, with a simple equipment payback of 3 years," remarked Asher Pavel, HHC House Committee chairman.
