Harry M. Gerber, Bloomfield

Harry M. Gerber, 89, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Mollie (Mollen) Gerber died peacefully Sunday, (November 14, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born March 2, 1921 in Meriden, he was the son of the late Samuel and Gussie Gerber. He lived in Hartford before moving to Bloomfield over 50 years ago. Harry served proudly with the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. He attended Hillyer College, Hartford. Harry managed numerous shoe stores in the Hartford area for over 40 years and he also obtained his Connecticut real estate license. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, West Hartford, the Knights of Pythias, Cabot Lodge, Jewish War Veterans Laurel Post, and the Bloomfield Seniors. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, gardening and fishing. Besides his wife, Mollie of 66 years, he is survived by two sons, Scott Gerber and his wife, Marilyn of Huntington, N.Y., Glenn Gerber and his wife, Beth of Tariffville; a daughter, Lisa Darling and her husband, Bruce, of Granby; former son-in-law, Stephen Guerrette; four grandchildren, Sheldon and Sonia Guerrette, and Robyn and Nicole Gerber; three step grandchildren, Daniel, David and Jessica Darling; a great-granddaughter, Tatianna Camp; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Herman and her husband, Bob, Rita Berwald and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jacob and Abe Gerber; a sister, Molly Hochman; a sister and brother-in-law, Bette and Bob Pasternack. Special thanks to his two companions Carol and Roberta and to the nurses and doctors at St. Francis Hospital. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
