FAIRFIELD – The Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield has received a $24,000 challenge grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation for the transportation program for Bridgeport area seniors who attend the Home’s Grasmere by the Sea Adult Day Services.
“In today’s difficult economic environment this generosity is deeply appreciated and assures clients will have accessible transportation to the comprehensive health, social and rehabilitative services we provide,” said Michael Hebert, Director of Grasmere by the Sea Adult Day Services.
Currently, 80 of the 105 participants enrolled in the adult day center use the transportation services. In addition to enjoying recreational activities and socialization with peers at the center, hot nutritious lunches are provided, blood pressure is monitored, and certified nursing assistants are available for personal care. The Center’s clients represent a range of physical and cognitive functioning levels, making the need for safe, secure transportation essential.
“The grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation will help support our diverse transportation arrangements,” said Hebert. “Having compassionate bus drivers who understand the special needs of our participants is extremely important for their safe arrival and safe return home each day.”
