Sumner G. Berkun, M.D.

Sumner G. Berkun, M.D., passed away on Saturday Dec. 24, 2011 at Bridgeport Hospital. A retired allergist, Dr. Berkun spent his career caring for patients in Bridgeport and surrounding areas. A graduate of Central High School, the University of Bridgeport, and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, School of Medicine, he also trained in Bridgeport, NewYork, and Pittsburgh. A son of the late Isadore and Rose (Krasnow) Berkun, he is survived by his brother Rabbi Alvin Berkun and his wife Flora of Pittsburgh, Penn., nephews and nieces, Elizabeth (Dr. Eric) Friedman of Princeton, N.J., Rabbi Jonathan (Rabbi Lauren) Berkun of Aventura, Fla., Rebecca (Scott) of Philadelphia, Penn., eight great-nephews and nieces, an aunt and many cousins. Funeral services took place on Monday Dec. 26, 2011 at the Farband Cemetery in Fairfield.
