A “win-win” day

Carmel’s winning girls’ varsity basketball team, and their coach Barnett Goldman, show off the team’s first place trophy.

The girls’ varsity basketball team of Carmel Academy of Greenwich and the boys’ varsity basketball team of Bi-Cultural Day School of Stamford captured first place in the Seder Plate, the four-school tournament held on March 26 on the campus of Carmel. In addition to Bi-Cultural and Carmel, Ezra Academy of Woodbridge and Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford took part in the tournament.
“There was a wonderful sense of community, with athletes from day schools throughout Connecticut congregating on our campus,” said Carmel Academy’s Head of School Nora Anderson, noting that more than 80 athletes and 150 spectators filled the school’s auditorium for the event.
“I am so proud of our young athletes who exhibited exemplary sportsmanship, teamwork and respect for each other and our visitors. It was an exciting day filled with such pride by all who were involved.”
“Although there may only be one winner per division, all of the kids won,” said Carmel’s athletic director and the team’s coach, Barnett Goldman. “The Seder Plate is set up to give schools that don’t normally get to compete in tournaments a chance to play each other and represent their schools with pride. We want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to show off their skills while having fun and making new friends. It’s a win-win.”
