Woodbridge student wins major music competition

Miriam Gerber of Woodbridge has won the Neighborhood Music School’s Greater New Haven Youth Ensembles (GNHYE) 2012 Concerto Competition. Gerber will perform as a violin soloist in next year’s GNHYE concerts at Woolsey Hall, where she will play the third movement of the Bruch violin concerto No. 1. A ninth grader at the Jewish High School of Connecticut (JHSC) in Bridgeport, Gerber participates in Stanford University’s online Education Program for Gifted Youth. In addition to her musical skills, Gerber is editor of JHSC’s literary magazine and helped her school place in the top ten percent in the world’s largest K-12 science competition.
