IDF Sgt. Netanel Moshiashvili, 21, of Ashkelon was killed in a gunfight on the Gaza border on June 1. The pre-dawn shootout occurred when a Gaza-based terrorist sought to take advantage of a thick fog to pass through a hole he’d cut in the Gaza security fence. A unit from the Golani brigade responded and came under fire from the terrorist. The terrorist was killed when artillery soldiers returned fire.

 

Netanel YahalomiIDF SOLDIER NETANEL YAHALOMI
IDF Soldier Netanel Yahalomi, 20, of Nof Ayalon was killed on Sept. 21 by terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula near the Israel-Egypt border. The terrorists came to the border between Egypt and Israel south of Mount Sagi. The IDF returned fire, killing all three heavily-armed terrorists. Yahalomi killed a terrorist before he himself was fatally shot.
It is not clear if the terrorists were from Gaza or from the Sinai Global Jihad Organization.

Saed Fashafshe, 36, of Haifa was killed on June 18 when Palestinian terrorists infiltrated the Kadesh Barnea area from Sinai and opened fire on the vehicles of several Israelis. The father of four was an Israeli-Arab Defense Ministry contractor.

IDF Corporal Yosef Nachman Fartuk, 18, was killed on Nov. 20 by a mortar shell while guarding a community in the Eshkol Regional Council in southern Israel. He was from the West Bank settlement of Immanuel, founded by Breslav Chassidim.

Aharon Smadja, 49 was among those killed when a rocket struck his apartment building in Kiryat Malakhi in Southern Israel.

Lt. Boris Yarmulnik, 28, of Netanya, died on Nov. 22 of injuries sustained after a rocket fired from Gaza landed in the Eshkol Regional Council the previous day. Born in Kiev, Yarmulnik immigrated to Israel from Ukraine in 1993. He was an IDF reserve officer.

BULGARIAN BUS ATTACK
Five Israelis and a Bulgarian bus driver were killed on June 18, when a member of the terrorist group Hezbollah exploded a bus full of Israeli tourists in Bulgaria. The victims were: KOCHAVA SHRIKI, 44, from Rishon Lezion; ITZIK KOLANGI, 28, from Petach Tikva; AMIR MENASHE, 28, from Petach Tikva; ELIOR PRICE, 26, from Acre; MAOR HARUSH, 25, from Acre; MUSTAFA KYOSEV, the 36-year-old Bulgarian bus driver.

OPERATION PILLAR OF DEFENSE
MIRAH SCHARF, 26; AHRON SMADJA, 49; and YITZCHAK AMSALEM, 24, were killed on Nov. 15 when a rocket launched from Gaza struck an apartment building in Kiryat Malakhi in southern Israel.
