A winning season for West Hartford day school

The Solomon Schechter Day School Scorpions stung their opponents this season with the performance of both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.
The Scorpion boys finished the year with a remarkable 19-3 record, placing first in the Master’s School Tournament and second in the annual Seder Plate Tournament held at Carmel Academy in Greenwich.
The boys’ team included: eighth graders Daniel Brocke, Matty Berson, Jon Peikes, David Hersh, Jon Kaback and Noah Sobel-Pressman; seventh graders Matthew Patchen, Dylan Landau, Noah Silverman, Joshua Shafer, Jason Buckman, Micah Glickman, Jacob Diamond; and sixth grader Gabriel Epstein.
The Scorpion girls surprised many with their 9-5 winning record, finishing in second place in the Seder Plate Tournament. “It was a great season, the girls improved quite a bit.  I really enjoyed working with such a great group of girls!” said Jessica Shepherd, who finished up her first year as the team’s head coach. The girls’ team included eighth graders Mollie Gaudet, Emma Stein, Gabrielle Gershon, Hannah Pliskin, Lillie Pinette, Rebecca Gold, Olivia Rotter, Izabella Raviv, Claire Peikes, and Ruth Nawy.
