Holocaust Commemoration Day ceremony at the State Capitol, April 12

Hartford – “Never Again: Heading the Warning Signs” is the theme of the 35th Annual Holocaust Commemoration Day ceremony to be held in the Senate Chambers of the Connecticut State Capitol on Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m.  Holocaust survivor Ruth Fishman of West Hartford will deliver the keynote address.
Born in Cologne, Germany in 1935, Fishman was nine years old when she was sent to the Dutch concentration camp of Westerbork. After 10 months, she was transported to the Czechoslovakian concentration camp, Theresienstadt. When the war ended, Fishman returned to Holland and later emigrated to the United States. Today, Fishman, a mother of three and grandmother of seven, speaks about her experience in schools, synagogues and other local organizations.
Presided over by Senate President Don Williams, this year’s statewide commemoration is hosted by the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, and organized by the Statewide Holocaust Commemoration Planning Committee, chaired by Alan Lazowski.
The commemoration is sponsored by the Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut (JFACT); and co-sponsored by the Jewish Federations of Greater Hartford, Danbury, Eastern CT, Greater New Haven, United Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, Greenwich, Western CT and Westport-Weston-Wilton-Norwalk, UJA/Federation of Eastern Fairfield County; in coordination with the Anti-Defamation League, the Christian Conference of Connecticut, the State of Connecticut, State of Israel Bonds and the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
