HARTFORD – Dr. Michael and Yahel Gutman, founders of New England Urgent Care, are the recipients of the 2013 Hartford Business Journal Health Care Heroes Award for outstanding staff.

“We are so proud and honored to have received this recognition. We couldn’t be more pleased with the exceptional care and compassion our entire staff offers to patients every day,” said Dr. Gutman.

New England Urgent Care is a certified practice with locations in West Hartford, Enfield and Simsbury that are each staffed with providers and nurses who are board-certified and trained in emergency medicine. Each location offers on-site x-rays, respiratory treatments, vaccinations, a pharmacy as well as suturing and casting, arranges for follow-up care such as CT scans and MRIs, and can provide a patient with expedited hospital admission, if required.

“Certification sets us apart from other walk-in clinics because it acknowledges the fact that we have the expertise and equipment to treat ALL non-life threatening injuries and illnesses for patients of any age – including infants and the elderly,”  said Gutman.

Yahel Gutman added, “We hope to continue strengthening our team, growing as a business, and providing exceptional care and service to the community.”

Dr. Gutman has been in practice for over 24 years, beginning his career in neurosurgery then switching to emergency medicine, earning his American Board Certification in 1996. He has worked as an attending emergency physician at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford since 1995. In 2002, Dr. Gutman joined the U.S. Army Reserves and was deployed overseas three times over a five-year period – twice to Iraq and once to Bosnia. His wife, clinical director Yahel Gutman, RN, BSN, has extensive experience in emergency care nursing, nurse and risk management, and has taught Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Trauma. In 2009, as an emergency department nurse, Yahel received the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing from Saint Francis Hospital.
