A Holiday Mitzvah

HHC mitzvah dayOne hundred and ten volunteers turned out at Hebrew Health Care (HHC) in West Hartford on Dec. 25 to assist in the performance of a variety of different tasks and activities – thus allowing those HHC staff who celebrate the Christmas holiday to be home with their families. Ruthan Wein, HHC director of volunteer resources, spent months planning and coordinating the annual “Christmas Mitzvah” program, which has volunteers of all ages, both individuals and families, delivering meals to patients’ rooms, working in the Main Street Café and gift shop, helping run recreation programs, doing some clerical work and more. Fifteen-year-old volunteer Eve Gilles of West Hartford even took a turn dancing with HHC resident Dr. Arnold Case.
