NYC goes on highest security alert in wake of Paris attacks

NEW YORK (JTA) – New York City put its security on high alert in the wake of last week’s attacks in Paris. Following the deadly incidents in Paris, additional security was placed at the French Consulate on the Upper East Side, WABC-TV reported. The Police Department also added more security at high-profile French and Jewish sites, WABC reported, citing Mayor Bill deBlasio’s office. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Sunday said in an interview with CNN, “What we saw in France over the course of this last week is unfortunately what we’re going to have to confront in the future. We’ve seen these kinds of attempts in the United States.” He added, “This is the nature of the new threat we must confront.” Police and security, some private, was stepped up in Jewish neighborhoods of London in the wake of the attacks, according to the London-based Jewish Chronicle.
