Hartford’s Jewish Community Foundation launches innovative new philanthropic center

WEST HARTFORD – The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford has announced the launch of its new Center for Innovative Philanthropy (CIP), a cutting-edge incubator of philanthropic ideas and best practices.

Part boutique consulting firm, part think-tank, part philanthropic advisory service, the Center’s mission is to drive more effective philanthropy through innovative initiatives, research, donor education and support that increases community nonprofits’ sustainability and impact. The Center is designed to harness ideas from around the globe, introduce new approaches to philanthropy, and employ best practices to increase the impact of nonprofits and donors across the Greater Hartford community. It will serve organizations of all sizes and scales, including those that are often excluded from such support, such as synagogues and day schools.

“The Jewish community benefits from the remarkable generosity of our donors and organizations that keep us vibrant and relevant,” said Michael Johnston, president and CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford. “The Center for Innovative Philanthropy seeks to reinforce these wonderful attributes and build opportunities for innovation, sustainability and impact for donors, organizations and the entire community.”

According to Johnston, an advisory committee of local leaders with business acumen, philanthropic experience and an appetite for innovation will guide the Center’s offerings.

“We’ll provide resources that help every dollar go farther, and bring new ideas and best practices into the mix,” said Kathryn Gonnerman, who has been named CIP’s director. “We look forward to working closely with everyone involved to support the community’s priorities and provide needed education and opportunities to increase our impact.”
