Mandell JCC dons purple to remember a beloved teacher

The Mandell JCC and its Beatrice Fox Auerbach Early Childhood Center (ECC) were awash in purple on Friday, Nov. 13, both to remember a beloved teacher and to show support for World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day, the theme of which was “Purple for a Purpose.” The ECC’s preschoolers, parents and teachers were joined by JCC members and staff in paying tribute to West Hartford resident Debbie Levy, who taught in the ECC’s “Classroom 5” for 22 years and lost her battle with pancreatic cancer less than four weeks ago. The Debbie Levy Kindness and Caring Fund was established in her honor as a way of helping ECC/JCC professionals continue their work in the early childhood field. Commenting on the kind thoughts and stories shared by families since Levy’s passing, ECC directors Pam Powell and Rhonda Wirth said, “The outpouring of love for Debbie was so widespread. It’s been heartwarming and healing to hear from families, past and present and just how many lives Debbie touched.” For more information visit www.mandelljcc.org.
