Tikkun olam made tasty

Students of B’nai Israel Religious School in Southbury, along with the shul’s congregants, collected 170 jars of peanut butter and jelly during the month of February, as part of the school’s annual Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive. The jars of Smooth Peanut Butter & Squeezable Jelly are then handed over to the “Mitzies” – the synagogue’s peanut butter and jelly crew, who gather together once a month in the shul’s kitchen to make sandwiches for the homeless that they then deliver to the Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries (GWIM) Soup Kitchen in Waterbury. Led by Sharon Goldman — in memory of her mother, Ida Epstein, who was a founding member of GWIM and a B’nai Israel member – within the span of about two hours the Mitzis constructed enough sandwiches to feed 200 people!
