Jewish Federation Foundation now offering college scholarships

SOUTHBURY – The Jewish Federation Foundation of Western CT is now accepting scholarship applications for students planning to attend college or technical school. Application deadline is April 30.

Since 2007, the Foundation has given out 92 awards to students in undergraduate, graduate or technical school programs totaling $235,000, through the following funds:

  • The William Finkelstein College Scholarship Fund awards $3,000 per year for all four years of school and is based on financial need to those living in the Greater Waterbury area.
  • The Alan and Janet Hertzmark Scholarship Fund awards $500 to any Jewish student residing in the State of Connecticut and is a merit-based award.
  • The Shobhna Shukla and Matthew Ginsburg College Scholarship Fund makes need-based awards between $1,000 and $4,500 for students of any race or religion living in the city of Waterbury to attend any post-high school program.
  • A Travel to Israel Award for students wishing to study in Israel is also available. Since 2007, the Foundation has awarded 13 Travel to Israel awards totaling $28,000, made possible through the generosity of the Liebeskind Travel to Israel Fund and the Walzer Passport to Israel Fund.
