Music to journey onward

On Sunday, March 6, students of Congregation Beth Israel’s eighth grade Journey Onward program produced a concert that raised more than $1,200 to benefit Jonathan’s Dream Reimagined, a new Boundless Playground providing an inclusive, accessible play space for families and children of all abilities. The playground will be housed on the Mandell Jewish Community Center campus. Performers at the benefit concert included Daniel Monyak on violin, the Voices of Bristow Middle School choir (with Journey Onward members Ryan Howe and soloist Riley Steinberg), and the women’s a capella group Sound of New England (with Naomi Scheinerman, the Journey Onward students’ teacher).

The Journey Onward program teaches students to have an impact on their community through social action projects, and to maintain their Jewish connection beyond the early religious school years in a fun and meaningful way. The group’s participants will take the lead in teaching the student body of Beth Israel’s religious school about a variety of important causes to consider as they collectively choose a recipient for other funds raised throughout the school year.
