Manchester synagogue to host jazz fest

MANCHESTER – Beth Sholom B’nai Israel (BSBI) will host the Second Annual BSBI Jazz Festival on Dec. 2 – 3 at Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Road in Manchester.

Artistic Director Alex Nakhimovsky will kick off the weekend of live jazz on Saturday evening with a set entitled “Classical Meets Jazz.” An accomplished jazz and classical pianist, composer and arranger, Nakhimovsky serves on the faculty of the Greater Hartford Academy for the Arts.

 

The two-day festival will also feature:

Vocalist Robin Lyn Treger accompanied by a group of internationally recognized musicians.

Zev and the Eastside Klezmer Connection featuring clarinetist Walter Zev Mamloc.

SwingStorm, a quartet of female vocalists, including Dianne Mower, Atla DeChamplain, Bev Rohlehr and Rebecca Ellis.

The River Boat Stoppers New Orleans Jazz Band, featuring the nationally renowned banjo player Jimmy Mazzy T.

 

The festival will run Saturday, December 2nd 7:30 to 10:30 PM and Sunday, December 3rd, 1:30 to 5:00 PM. At the end of each day’s performance, members of the audience can participate in an open jam session. Refreshments, CDs and festival T-shirts will be available for purchase.
